Community key in Wilson Park Recreational Precinct

In December, award-winning recreational park designers CONVIC developed a draft Wilson Park Recreational Precinct Masterplan.

CONVIC projects include skate parks in Jurien Bay, Mandurah, Onslow, Collie and Esperance, the Margaret River Youth Precinct, South Hedland Youth Space and Fremantle Esplanade Youth Plaza.

Extensive community and stakeholder consultation was undertaken throughout December to engage with future users to understand their requirements and expectations.

Shire President Chris Pavlovich said the consultation process was key to the success of youth spaces and recreational facilities for future generations.

“Thank you to those who shared their thoughts and feedback at one of the seven well-attended workshops or via the online survey, of which 149 responses were received,” Cr Pavlovich said.

“The Council values your feedback on this project, which will transform the currently underutilized space into a contemporary, accessible, and inclusive space for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy.”

“Last year the community identified enhancing parks, recreational spaces and youth services and facilities as key priorities, so Council allocated $150,000 in the 2022-2023 Budget towards developing a youth precinct at Wilson Park.”

“Eight key issues were presented to the Council at a workshop on 21 February for further consideration.

“CONVIC will now incorporate the community feedback into the final masterplan design, which will be available on the Shire website in April.
