PLANTAGENET VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATE NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

128 volunteers gathered at the Henderson and Hwang Function Centre on Friday 19 May to celebrate National Volunteer Week and their contribution to volunteering at the Shire of Plantagenet’s annual Thank a Volunteer sundowner.

Volunteers thoroughly enjoyed networking with like-minded community members, enjoying tasty homemade food and refreshments throughout the evening.

Shire of Plantagenet Acting CEO Gary Clark opened the event, handing over to Shire President Cr Chris Pavlovich who addressed the outstanding effort made by local volunteers over the past year. ‘Plantagenet volunteers punch way above the state and national average with every one in three residents contributing to voluntary work through an organisation or group’ said Cr Pavlovich.

National Volunteer Week (NVW) runs 15-21 May and is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering. The theme for 2023 was ‘The Change Makers’, acknowledging volunteers as people who take action to make the world a better place, turning their passion into purpose.

The event was proudly supported by Volunteering WA through funding from Lotterywest and the Wine Show of Western Australia Committee who provided the sparkling Riesling for the evening.
