In partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), the Shire is pleased to announce the Pwakkenbak/Tower Hill Mountain Bike Trails Network contract has been awarded.
Award-winning WA trail development consultancy Three Chillies Design will design and build up to 10-kilometres of single-track cross country and downhill mountain bike trails at Pwakkenbak/Tower Hill in Mount Barker.
Shire President Chris Pavlovich said works would commence once a clearing permit for the site had been approved by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
“This is an exciting project for Plantagenet, which will offer local riders world-class trails to train on for competitions while hopefully attracting users from across the Great Southern region,” he said.
“These mountain bike trails will complement the universal-access pedestrian path, boardwalk and viewing platform delivered in 2021, which connects to the popular tourist attraction, the Rotary Club of Mount Barker Lookout.
“This project has been developed in consultation with Outdoors Great Southern and the Mount Barker Aboriginal Progress Association, and forms part of Council’s efforts to promote Plantagenet as a premier outdoor leisure destination.”
DBCA Project Manager Jarred Pedro said the design and construction of the trails was anticipated to be completed over a five-month period, once the clearing permit was obtained.
