The South Coast Alliance Inc. (SCA) a collaborative Local Government Regional Climate Alliance (RCA) will receive an additional $50,000 from the WA State Government to deliver Your Business, Our Future, a pilot project that will support the business community in monitoring and reducing emissions and build awareness of emission sources in operations.

SCA, an alliance made up of the City of Albany and Shires of Denmark, Jerramungup and Plantagenet, will invite applications from small businesses to participate in a pilot project to have a complete assessment of their operations Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions undertaken. Eight businesses (two per member LGA – one agricultural and one non-agricultural) will be chosen to participate in the program via a competitive selection process.

Businesses chosen to participate in Your Business - Our Future Program, will be provided customised recommendations for their business, together with the provision of support to develop an action plan to monitor and reduce emissions within their business into the future.

The project will identify challenges and opportunities specific to the regions business community, while providing identifiable examples and potential ambassadors to encourage other businesses to implement actions for emissions reduction.

Participation in the Your Business - Our Future Program is worth $5,000 per business but thanks to funding, SCA can offer the program to 8 businesses for $650. Applications are available on or by emailing

South Coast Alliance Chairperson Jon Oldfield said the project will complement the extensive work the SCA are currently undertaking.

“This will include developing a climate dashboard that tracks and monitors community emissions across the region,” Mr Oldfield said.

“This grant will provide another forward step in the direction of a positive climate future for the region and the Alliance is grateful to the State Government for providing this opportunity.”

The Regional Climate Alliance Pilot Program is an initiative under the Western Australian Climate Policy, delivered by WALGA in partnership with the Department of Water and Environment Regulation and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries in 2021.

The Regional Climate Alliance Pilot Program provides vital expertise and funding to support regional Local Governments in advancing climate action aspirations in the face of increasing budgetary constraints and skill shortages. The aim of the Program is to support Local Governments to take action on climate change, energy and sustainability through regional partnerships.
