The Shire of Plantagenet is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Community Safety.
To oversee Council’s ranger services, emergency management, bushfire risk mitigation and regulatory compliance. You will play a vital role in ensuring community wellbeing, enhancing resilience to emergencies, and delivering high quality safety outcomes across the Shire.
Reporting to the Executive Manager Development & Regulatory Services, you will:
- Lead and coordinate the community safety team, including Rangers, Bushfire Risk Mitigation and administration staff.
- Oversee ranger and compliance services including animal management, local laws and public safety.
- Drive emergency management planning in line with the Emergency Management Act 2005.
- Coordinate bushfire mitigation programs and support firebreak compliance under the Bush Fire Act 1954.
- Work closely with agencies such as Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES), emergency services and community groups.
- Contribute to strategic planning, policy development and reporting to Council.
- Promote community awareness and engagement in safety initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- Proven experience in community safety, regulatory services, emergency management or similar.
- Strong leadership skills experience managing multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of relevant WA legislation and compliance frameworks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage complex issues, competing priorities and operational demands.
- Current c-class Driver’s Licence
Desirable
- Qualifications in emergency management, compliance, public safety or related fields
- Local government experience
- Incident Control System (ICS) or emergency management training
- Knowledge of bushfire risk mitigation planning and DFES programs.
Competitive conditions of employment are offered including a salary of up to $100,298 (Level 8) per annum plus 12% superannuation contribution and co-contributions of up to 5%. The appointed person will be required to work 76 hours per fortnight on a 9-day fortnightly cycle.
