Access and Inclusion

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

The Shire of Plantagenet is committed to facilitating the inclusion of people with disability through the improvement of access to its facilities and services. The Shire’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) provides guidance for the Council and the Shire of Plantagenet community to become accessible and inclusive to people with disability, their families and carers. It covers seven Outcome Areas: Services and Events, Shire Buildings and Facilities, Shire Information, Customer Service, Complaints, Public Consultation, and Employment.

The Disability Services Act requires that DAIPs be reviewed at least every five years.  The Council updated the Shire's Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) in November 2017, another review will be undertaken this year.

Disability Advisory Group

The Disability Advisory Group is an informal committee that provides feedback and advice to the Council about matters relating to Access and Inclusion. The group meets bi-annually and has achieved some great outcomes over the past years. These include infrastructure and building audits and upgrades, the planning and coordination of events for International Day of People with Disability and advocacy services.

'Celebrating Ability' Documentary

The Shire of Plantagenet launched its 'Celebrating Ability' Documentary on Thursday 17 March 2022.

The idea of developing a disability awareness campaign was first raised by the Disability Advisory Group back in 2021.  The Shire of Plantagenet produced a 10-minute video featuring four inspiring community members and their stories of living with a disability. The documentary aims to raise awareness around disability and showcases the extraordinary achievements individuals with a disability accomplish, how they overcome barriers and contribute to community life and reach their goals.
