    Tip passes

Subsidised tip passes are issued to all rateable properties within the Shire of Plantagenet. Properties located within the kerbside rubbish collection area receive one tip pass. Properties located outside the kerbside rubbish collection area receive three tip passes. This system aims to provide equity for refuse disposal for all residents.

One tip pass is equal to nine tokens. Each token equals up to 1x240L mobile garbage bin or the equivalent. Tip passes are issued in August with rates notices and are valid from 1 August until 31 August the following year unless otherwise advised. Tip passes (or unused portions thereof) are not refundable or redeemable for cash.

    How does it work?

When rubbish is deposited at a waste disposal site, the tip pass is ‘punched'. The volume of rubbish deposited determines the number of tokens 'punched'.

If more waste needs to be deposited than allocated on the tip pass, additional tip passes can be purchased from the Shire Administration Centre. Eftpos payments for deposits are accepted at the O'Neill Road Waste Management Facility.

Tip passes must remain with the property when sold as part of settlement. If the new ratepayers do not receive the tip pass or it is lost, they will need to purchase a new pass from the Shire Administration Centre.

    Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers

Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers may be purchased from the Shire Administration Centre or over the telephone by credit card. Refuse vouchers purchased by telephone can be collected in person or mailed to the ratepayer's address. Tokens can be purchased through Eftpos payment at the O’Neill Road Waste Facility.

Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers are required by the following:

    • Ratepayers and residents who receive a weekly refuse collection service and have excess waste,
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who intend to deposit chargeable waste or more waste than allocated on the tip passes,
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who have lost their tip pass,
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who have not received a tip pass from the previous owner/occupier,
    • Any other user (commercial customers refer below).

Shire of Plantagenet-based business owners who deposit waste regularly may apply for an account from the Shire Administration Centre. A record of waste disposal must be completed and signed for on each occasion and a monthly account is issued.

Tip site keys are not issued to commercial customers. All waste disposal must occur during waste facility operating hours.

        Waste disposal fees

A fee applies for the disposal of most items at waste disposal sites. Refer to the 2025-2026 Fees & Charges for further information.

The following items are free to dispose of:

        • Separated recyclables (plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, paper, glass bottles)
        • Batteries (car, truck etc)
        • Uncontaminated timber
        • Uncontaminated green waste
        • Clean fill.

All other waste, including household waste, is chargeable. Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers can be purchased in the following units:

        • 4 tokens        $38.00
        • 10 tokens      $93.00

Token values are based on the current price of rubbish collection of up to one 240 litre mobile garbage bin.

Commercial rate charges are subject to a calculation that estimates the average weight of refuse in each category.

        Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste (HHW) cannot be disposed of at any of the waste management facilities.

Refer to the Household Hazardous Waste Program | Waste Authority WA webpage for further information regarding how to dispose of HHW safely.
