    Tip Passes

Rateable properties with a habitable domestic dwelling that do not receive a weekly household waste collection are entitled to a Waste Facilities Pass (tip pass) which enables them to deposit a limited amount of chargeable waste at the Shire's waste sites. (Rural properties with more than one domestic dwelling are entitled to one tip pass per dwelling). This system generally aims to provide an allowance for refuse disposal, in lieu of the weekly refuse collection service.

The tip pass will be provided which contains an allowance of four tokens per month. Unless organised otherwise, the tip pass will be posted to the owner of the property at the beginning of each financial year. Other usage of Council refuse facilities is at the fees chargeable in the Shire's annual budget.

Tip pass rules are explained below:

When rubbish is deposited at a waste disposal site, the tip pass will be ‘punched'. Each tip pass token will enable the user to deposit the equivalent of one 240 litre mobile garbage bin (MGB). The amount of tokens punched will depend on the amount of rubbish deposited. Please note that tokens will only be valid for a particular three month period (e.g. August to October).

If customers intend to deposit more chargeable waste than allotted on the tip pass, they will need to purchase a prepaid refuse disposal pass before going to the waste disposal site.

Where new owners move into a property, the tip pass should remain with the property. If the new owners do not receive the pass or in the event of a pass being lost, then a new pass will not be issued.

In such cases, the ratepayer will be obliged to purchase a prepaid refuse disposal voucher from the Shire of Plantagenet Offices.

Tip passes (or unused portions thereof) are not refundable or redeemable for cash.

    Prepaid Refuse Disposal Vouchers

Due to security and occupational safety and health concerns, it will not be possible to pay for chargeable waste at tip sites. Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers may be purchased from the Shire Office, Lowood Road, Mount Barker or over the telephone by credit card.

Prepaid refuse disposal vouchers are required by the following who intend to deposit chargeable waste at Shire waste disposal sites:

    • Ratepayers and residents who receive a weekly refuse collection service and have excess waste.
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who intend to deposit chargeable waste or more waste than allotted on the tip passes.
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who have lost their tip pass.
    • Rural ratepayers and residents who have moved into the district and who have not received a tip pass from the previous owner/occupier.
    • Any other user (commercial customers – refer below).

Shire of Plantagenet based business owners who deposit waste regularly may apply for an account from the Shire Office, Lowood Road, Mount Barker. A record of waste disposed of is to be completed and signed for on each occasion and a monthly account will be issued. Please note that tip site keys will no longer be issued to business customers. All waste disposal is to take place during normal tip site operating hours.

    Waste Disposal Fees

A fee applies for the disposal of most waste items at the Shire of Plantagenet’s waste disposal sites.

No charge is made on the following items:

    • Separated recyclables (plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, paper, glass bottles)
    • Batteries (car, truck etc.)
    • Uncontaminated timber.
    • Uncontaminated green waste.

All other waste, including household waste, is chargeable.
