Visitor information

Mount Barker lies on three important tourist routes - Albany Highway, which connects Perth and Albany, Muir Highway, which connects the South West to the Great Southern through Manjimup, and Porongurup Road, which links Mount Barker to Porongurup.

The spectacular wildflower season attracts large numbers of tourists, via self-drive and coach travel. The most popular forms of accommodation are caravan parks and self-catering accommodation, such as motels and chalets.

Good road systems provide attractive and well-signed access to the coast, with the dramatic coastline in Denmark and Albany a pleasant half-hour drive from Mount Barker.  A few days stay at Mount Barker with planned daily trips to the many nearby tourists attractions will be a rewarding experience for any traveller.

A dump point and potable water is available at the Mount Barker Visitor Centre on Albany Highway. If you would like to stay longer in our picturesque region, please find caravan parks at these locations:

Tourist attractions

Mount Barker is located approximately four hours drive south of Perth and is in the heart of the Great Southern region.

Whether your tastes run to internationally recognised wines or the breathtaking beauty of ancient mountain ranges, the Plantagenet region has plenty to discover.

The region is complemented by ample and varied accommodation, unique dining and close proximity to Albany, Denmark and Walpole. You can start your day with a trek or drive through the Stirling Range, the Porongurup Range, enjoying the plentiful wildlife and surroundings. Stop by for lunch at one of our many restaurants and tea rooms before touring the vineyards. Many of the wineries provide tastings. Top off the afternoon with a visit to one of the craft galleries, or some of the paintings in the Sir Claude Hotchin Art Gallery, located in the Mount Barker Public Library (in the Community Resource Centre, Lowood Road, Mount Barker).
