Mount Barker Railway Station Centenary Open Day
Past Event
Regarded as one of the most "up-to-date" railway stations outside of Perth in its heyday, the precinct stands as a testament to timeless elegance, with exquisite de Garis brickwork and modern architecture.
To honour this historic occasion, the Mount Barker Railway Station building occupants, Mount Barker Tourism, are thrilled to announce a series of celebratory events throughout the year, starting with a Centenary Open Day on Wednesday, 6 March.
This is an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.
Tickets are free and available at the centre or online at https://events.humanitix.com/mount-barker-railway-station-centenary-open-day.
The festivities will include:
- Railway Exhibition at the Visitor Centre: An insightful exhibition offering visitors a journey through the rich history and architectural splendour of the Mount Barker Railway Station Precinct. This exhibition serves as a tribute to the station's significance in the region and is in collaboration with the Plantagenet
Historical Society.
- “In the Footsteps of Bella Kelly” Exhibition in the Gallery: This exhibit features artwork by local artists. The exhibit is the culmination of three Landcare Art Day outings held
between October 2023 and January 2024. The project is led by Green Skills Inc., in collaboration with the Oyster Harbour Catchment Group and Gondwana Link Project,
working with Mount Barker Noongar Elders, Caroline Narkle (daughter of Bella Kelly), Frank Krakouer and their families.
More celebrations are planned for the coming months, including a limited edition commemorative Mount Barker Riesling auction and sale, Community Art Trail and a Roaring 20's Ball.
