Have your say on Local Planning Policy #3 - outbuildings and shipping containers

A proposed new planning policy that aims to guide the development of outbuildings (sheds) and shipping containers is being advertised by the Shire of Plantagenet Council.

Local Planning Policy #3 – Outbuildings & Sea Containers will replace two existing local planning policies and improve the clarity and consistency of development standards.

Key changes include:

Extending the range of sheds that can be built without planning approval;
Extending opportunities for the use of shipping containers;
Aligning property size to the size of sheds that is allowed; and
Providing clear assessment criteria for planning applications.

The proposed policy and easy-to-read shed brochure and shipping containers brochure are available to view online or hard copies can be requested at the Shire Admin Centre.

Feedback and comments can be submitted in writing to the Shire of Plantagenet, PO Box 48, Mount Barker WA, 6324 or via email to [email protected].

Submissions close 4.00pm Wednesday 25 June 2025.

The results of the public comment period will then be presented to the Council for review and decision.
