BUSH FIRES ACT 1954

PART III PREVENTION OF BUSH FIRES

SECTION 18 - COMMENCEMENT OF RESTRICTED BURNING TIME

Pursuant to Section 18 Bush Fires Act 1954 the Shire of Plantagenet advises Restricted Burning Time will commence Friday, 1 March 2024 for the following zone;

EASTERN AND WESTERN ZONES

Landowner/occupiers MUST obtain a Fire Permit from their nearest Fire Control Officer before any Hazard Reduction or burning off can commence.

The Shire's Chief Bush Fire Control Officer, Mr Norm Handasyde has exercised his powers to restrict the issuing of Fire Permits to the following criteria;

  • Fire Permits are at the discretion of the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer.
  • Fire Permits will be issued for Agricultural purposes only until April 2024.
  • No Fire Permits will be issued for burning of tree piles; and,
  • Permit Holders must abide by all other conditions prescribed by the issuing Fire Control Officer or Chief Fire Weather Officer; and
  • Permit holders must log their burns with the DFES Communications Centre Ph: 1800 198 140 (Free call) prior to igniting.

Permit Holders are reminded under the new Australian Fire Danger Rating System all permits will be deemed invalid when the Fire Danger Rating reaches Fire Danger Index of 24 ‘HIGH’ or above. The onus is on the Permit Holder to check the Bureau of Meteorology website for the day’s fire danger rating prior to burning.

If the day’s fire danger rating is ‘HIGH’ and weather conditions are suitable for burning, permit holders can get in contact with the Chief Fire Weather Officer or in his absence the Deputy Fire Weather Officer to review conditions and this Officer only may provide an exemption to that permit.

Please note Fire Permits can be suspended or cancelled at any time by any Fire Control Officer based upon local conditions or forecast weather conditions.

This notice dated 2 February 2024.
