A meeting of the Great Southern Voluntary Organisation of Councils (GSVROC) was held in Mount Barker on 4 August.
The GSVROC is a strategic alliance between local governments in the central and upper Great Southern region.
The meeting was attended by the Shires of Woodanilling, Kent, Katanning, Kojonup, Cranbrook, Broomehill Tambellup, Gnowangerup and Plantagenet.
Shire President Len Handasyde said the alliance’s key objective was to work together to create value for each of the participating local governments.
“The group, previously known as the Southern Link VROC, was established in 2009 by the Shires of Plantagenet, Cranbrook, Kojonup and Broomehill Tambellup,” Cr Handasyde said.
“It expanded in 2011 to include the Shires of Gnowangerup and Katanning and has now expanded again to include all eight member Shires, who entered into a new Memorandum of Understanding at the meeting."
“Our strategic priorities are the economic viability of our communities, operational efficiencies and climate resilience.”
The GSVROC will meet again in November following the local government elections to appoint a chairperson from within the group.
