Hundreds of cyclists, spectators and supporters will transform Kendenup’s main street during a mass participation gravel cycling and running event next month.

The Shire of Gnowangerup’s Wild Gravel kicks off in the Stirling Range on 11 October, comprising 15 unique walking, running and cycling challenges ranging from 5km to 150km.

The gruelling 150km gravel road race starts at 7am, with the first riders expected to race up Kendenup’s main street at 8.35am. As the only spectator point of the race, the town will be buzzing with supporters cheering them on.

The inaugural 2024 Wild Gravel attracted 350 participants, with event organisers anticipating up to 500 participants across this year's entire event.

To celebrate, the Kendenup community will host the Down South Markets at the Kendenup Town Hall from 9am-1pm. The Bloom Festival - Great Southern Treasures event, The Bakers Folly, will host the first exhibition in the newly renovated, historic ‘Old Bakery’ from 9am-3pm, showcasing botanically inspired art by local artist Stephanie Dimmock.

The Shire of Plantagenet is seeking 10 volunteers to assist at road and railway crossings from 8am-11.15am during the event. Training and a commemorative T-shirt will be gifted to volunteers. Please contact Manager Community and Recreation Services Nicole Selesnew on [email protected] or 08 9892 1111 if you would like to contribute to this community event.
