Long-serving Councillor Len Handasyde was returned as Shire President at a Special Council Meeting yesterday.

Cr Handasyde was re-elected alongside incumbent Councillors Andrew Fraser and Brett Bell in the local government election on Saturday.

They are joined by Marie O’Dea, who returns to the Council after a two-year hiatus, and Kim Tyrer, who will serve her first term as an elected member.

The five successful candidates were sworn in at a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday evening. Their terms expire on 20 October 2029.

They join Councillors Ken Clements, Josh Liebeck, Rosie Brown and Warren Sheard, with Cr Liebeck taking over the reigns as Deputy President from Cr Clements.

Cr Handasyde congratulated Cr Liebeck and thanked Cr Clements for his extended service as Deputy President.

“Cr Clements has served as a councillor for more than three decades and received an Order of the Medal of Australia in June in recognition of his public service,” Cr Handasyde said.

“On behalf of the Council and Plantagenet community, I thank him for his commitment over many years, and welcome Cr Liebeck to his new role.”

“The Council is looking forward to our first Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 October.”
