Evacuation Centres and Emergency Relief

An evacuation centre is opened only when needed for a particular incident. Its location and opening time will be announced through Emergency WA and other official incident information.

Do Not travel to an Unconfirmed Location

A familiar community building may be unsafe, inaccessible or needed for another purpose. Check the current warning and go only to the activated centre or another safe place identified in your household plan.

Please refer to the Shire's Local Emergency Management Arrangements to find more detailed information.

What to Bring

  • essential medicines, prescriptions and mobility or communication aids
  • identification, Medicare and insurance information
  • clothing, toiletries, water, snacks and phone chargers
  • items for babies, children and older people
  • your emergency kit and any important documents you can take safely
  • supplies and documentation for a recognised assistance animal.

Pets and Other Animals

Animals are not permitted inside evacuation centres other than recognised assistance animals. Make separate arrangements for pets, horses and livestock before an emergency. Do not delay your own evacuation or enter a dangerous area to collect an animal.

At the Centre

Register when you arrive and tell staff about accessibility, health, medication, cultural, language or other support needs. Emergency relief and support may include information, registration and reunification, immediate personal support and help arranging temporary accommodation. Services vary with the incident and are coordinated by the responsible agencies.

If you need help

Follow the contact information published for the incident. The Department of Communities Disaster Relief Hotline, 1800 032 965, is activated when required for people affected by an eligible emergency.
