Community grants strengthen connection, inclusion and participation

Five community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations will receive financial assistance under the latest round of the Shire’s Community Grants Program (CGP).

The CGP has four categories:

  1. CEO Donation (up to $1,000) – open year-round
  2. Quick Response Grant (less than $3,000) – open year-round
  3. Community Grant (more than $3,000) – round 1 open August-September, round 2 open February-March,
  4. Industry Support (Triennium Community Grants) – open February-March.

The Council considered category 3 and 4 applications received in round 2 of the 2025-2026 CGP at the April and May Council meetings.

Shire President Len Handasyde congratulated the successful recipients, whose applications met the program’s objective to support projects that build community capacity, promote social participation and inclusion, and enhance community harmony.

“Plantagenet Village Homes will receive $4534 to supply and install window security screens for units at Redman Court, and Mount Barker Wildlife Hospital will receive $4114 towards the purchase of a storage container for wildlife care equipment and supplies, ” Cr Handasyde said.

“Kendenup Tennis Club will receive $8000 to construct a concrete disabled ramp with handrails to improve safe and inclusive access for people with a disability, people with prams and people with reduced mobility.”

“The Friends of the Porongurup Range will receive $10,000 for the Porongurup National Park Centenary Exhibition, which will depict the social, cultural and natural history of the park from 1926 to 2026.”

“Empowering Plantagenet Seniors will receive a total of $111,375 delivered over a three-year period for their new meal delivery program, GO-PHER – Meals for the Community.”

The Council allocated $155,000 to the CGP in the 2025-2026 Annual Budget to support the vital work of community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations.

The Council approved 24 applications with total funding of $148,463 for the 2025-2026 financial year. The latest projects will be allocated to the 2026-2027 Annual Budget.

CEO Donation and Quick Response Grants are open year-round. Community Grants round 1 will open in August/September and round 2 in February/March. Industry Support (Triennium Community Grants) applications open in February/March.
