Lost, Found and Impounded Animals
Contact Ranger Services as soon as possible if your pet is missing, you have found a domestic animal or you believe an animal has been impounded.
My Pet is Missing
- Call Ranger Services on (08) 9892 1111 during business hours.
- Provide the animal’s species, name, breed, colour, sex, registration tag and microchip number.
- Give the last known location and time, and explain any medical or behavioural needs.
- Provide a current photograph and confirm your contact details.
- Check with nearby veterinary clinics, neighbours and appropriate local lost-pet networks.
Keep your phone available. Update Ranger Services promptly if the animal returns home.
I Have Found a Dog or Cat
- Keep a safe distance if the animal is frightened, injured or aggressive.
- Do not chase it into traffic or place yourself at risk.
- Check a visible tag only if the animal is calm and it is safe to do so.
- Call Ranger Services and give the exact location, description, tag details and current situation.
- If you have contained the animal safely, keep it separate from children and other pets until arrangements are made.
Do not keep, sell, rehome or relocate a found animal. A Ranger or veterinary clinic can arrange a microchip scan and help identify the owner.

Collecting an Impounded Animal
Contact the Shire before attending. Staff will confirm whether the animal is in Shire care, the collection arrangements and any fees that apply.
Be ready to provide:
- photo identification
- proof of ownership, registration or microchip details
- a suitable lead, collar, carrier or transport arrangement
- payment of applicable registration, microchipping, impound, transport or daily care fees.
An animal may need to be registered and microchipped before release where the law requires it. Keeping contact details current is the quickest way to be reunited with a lost pet.
