Parking and Abandoned Vehicles

Safe, considerate parking keeps roads, paths, driveways and public places accessible. Rangers patrol local parking areas, investigate reports and may issue infringements where legal requirements are not met.

Report an Immediate Danger

  • Call 000 if a parked or abandoned vehicle is creating an immediate threat to life or a serious crash risk.
  • For a hazard on a State-controlled road, contact Main Roads WA on 138 138.
  • For routine local parking or vehicle concerns, call Ranger Services on (08) 9892 1137 during business hours.

Parking Safely and Legally

  • Obey parking signs, time limits, loading restrictions and any bay reserved for a particular class of vehicle.
  • Park wholly within a marked bay and in the direction required by signs or road markings.
  • Do not block a driveway, right of way, footpath, pedestrian crossing or the safe movement of traffic.
  • Use an accessible (ACROD) parking bay only when the vehicle displays a valid permit and all permit conditions are met.
  • On a reserve, park only in an area set aside or signed for parking.
  • Do not leave an unlicensed vehicle, an unattached trailer or caravan, or a vehicle displayed for sale on a thoroughfare where the local law prohibits it.

Report an Apparently Abandoned Vehicle

A vehicle may look abandoned without legally being abandoned. Do not enter, move, damage or remove anything from it. When you report the vehicle, provide:

  • the exact location and nearest landmark or property number
  • registration plate, make, model and colour
  • visible condition, including broken windows or missing parts
  • how long you have observed it at the location
  • photographs taken only from a safe and lawful position.

Rangers may make enquiries to identify the owner and work with Police, Main Roads WA or another road authority.

If the legal requirements are met, a vehicle may be moved, impounded or disposed of and costs may be recovered from the responsible person.
