Dog Exercise Areas
Dogs may be exercised off lead in a designated dog exercise area when they remain under effective control. In other public places, keep your dog on a lead unless signs clearly allow otherwise.
Designated Exercise Areas
Rules for Off-Leash Exercise
- Stay close enough to see your dog and respond immediately.
- Carry a lead and use it as soon as another person, animal or activity requires closer control.
- Do not allow your dog to rush, chase, threaten or interfere with people, animals, sport or events.
- Remove dog waste immediately and take it with you if no bin is available.
- Follow all signs and any temporary closures or event directions.
- Keep dogs out of children’s playgrounds, car parks and areas being used for an authorised sport or activity.
Effective Control
Off lead does not mean unsupervised. A dog is under effective control when the person responsible can promptly call it back and prevent it from approaching or interfering with others. If recall is unreliable, keep the dog on a lead or long line.
Be Considerate
Not everyone is comfortable around dogs. Give people, wildlife, horses and other dogs space. If another dog is on lead, place your dog on lead before passing. Do not take a dog into an exercise area if it is aggressive, unwell or cannot be controlled.

Report an aggressive, wandering or uncontrolled dog to Ranger Services on (08) 9892 1137. Call 000 if a person is in immediate danger. For an urgent dog attack after hours, call 0428 512 356.
