Bushfire Mitigation Program

The Shire's Bushfire Mitigation Program involves mechanical and chemical works, including slashing, lopping, hand-weeding, mulching, pruning, landscaping, chemical spraying, drainage, prescribed burning, cultural burning, and access road construction as required.

Bushfire mitigation works are funded by sources including the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Mitigation Activity Fund Grants Program and the Shire’s Fire Management Budget.

Works in these programs are driven by the following plans:

  • Bushfire Risk Management Plan;
  • Bushfire Resilience in the Great Southern Program; and
  • State Planning Policy for Building in Bushfire Prone Areas.
