Iain Mackie advised on the 14 March 2026 that he had resigned his position as the Fire Chief of the Shire of Plantagenet.
Iain has brought his energy and passion into the role over the last few years and his work ethic, passion and time are greatly appreciated. He established protocols that brought better function and capacity within the Bushfire Brigades and enabled better preparedness. His engagement with the various agencies around fire-related issues has been very useful bringing changes to our interaction with those agencies. There has generally been an improvement in compliance.
The two Deputy Chiefs have stepped up a little with both willing to assist in this transition period. Matt Newham will act as the lead, with Steven Adams continuing to look after the East of the Shire and Craig Moore has agreed to assist in helping out in the Western part of the Shire.
This arrangement will continue until the Annual General Meeting in May 2026 when a new Chief Bushfire Control Officer will be appointed.
In the immediate future, a workshop will be held soon to discuss various issues and the Annual General Meeting and Bush Fire Advisory Committee meeting will be held as usual in May 2026.
