More than 115 volunteers gathered at West Cape Howe Wines on 6 March for the Shire of Plantagenet’s annual Thank a Volunteer Sundowner.

The evening recognised the many residents who generously give their time to support the community, including volunteers from emergency services, sporting clubs, community groups, charities and other local organisations.

Shire President Len Handasyde thanked attendees and highlighted Plantagenet’s strong volunteering culture, which sits well above the averages for regional WA, the state and Australia.

With more than 70 community and emergency service organisations and 37 sporting clubs across the Shire, volunteers play a vital role in strengthening the fabric of the community.

According to Volunteering WA, volunteering contributes $63.9 billion in benefits across WA, with nearly 400 million hours of volunteer time donated each year.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers – we could not do it without you!
