Have your say on Mount Barker townsite streetscaping (Closed)

The Council’s Streetscaping Working Group held meetings in 2022 to identify and prioritise streetscape amenity improvements in the Mount Barker townsite. As entry roads into the townsite, Langton, Memorial and Lowood Roads were prioritised for review.

The Shire of Plantagenet is seeking feedback from the community on the following proposed streetscape projects.

Langton Road

As a western entry point into the Mount Barker townsite, it is proposed to plant trees down the middle of Langton Road.  The trees would be planted from the intersection of Eaton Avenue west to the Marmion Street intersection.

Infrastructure constraints such as water, overhead power, sewer, cross street access and private driveways limit the possible tree plantings to 13 or 14 positions.

Other works include the removal of trees on the southern side of Langton Road; removal of the existing dilapidated footpath to improve pedestrian safety; and replacement of the kerb.

Memorial Road

As the eastern entry into the townsite, the Plantagenet Town Hall and the War Memorial feature either side of Memorial Road.  To enhance the access and these two landmarks it is proposed to replace the War Memorial bollards; upgrade the road surface; replace the kerb; and place large planter style boxes at strategic positions.

Concept plans of the proposals above can be viewed in the Shire Administration Office foyer and the Library. Feedback and comments can be submitted in writing to the Shire of Plantagenet, PO Box 48, Mount Barker, WA, 6324 or via email to [email protected] .

Submissions close 4.00pm Monday 24 April 2023.

The results of the community consultation will then be presented to the Council for review and decision.
