Building Plans, Records and Archive Requests

The Shire may hold building permit records and plans for a property.

Records vary by the age and history of the building, and the Shire cannot guarantee that every plan or document is available.

Who May Request Records

The property owner may request records. If you are acting for the owner, provide the owner's written authority and the identification or evidence required by the current form.

How to Request

  1. Complete the current Building Permit Archive Request Form.
  2. Provide the property address, lot details and enough information to identify the records.
  3. Attach owner authority and any required identification.
  4. Pay the current search and copying fee.
  5. Allow the stated processing time and respond if the Shire needs clarification.

Important Limitations

  • search fees may be non-refundable even if no records are found
  • old files may be incomplete, damaged, unavailable or show superseded work
  • archived plans do not confirm the current condition, compliance or boundary location of a building
  • copyright, privacy and owner-consent restrictions may limit what can be released

Buying a Property

Do not rely only on archive plans. Compare the property with approvals, consider a professional building inspection and ask the Shire about apparent unauthorised work before purchase.
